“Because usually, I am in control, I’m not like other guys, not in that way.

What happened—

That night there-

That wasn’t like me. Usually, I am in control”

Lycanthrope is a new piece of spoken word theatre, created by artist and poet Gray Crosbie, which explores the places where trans masculine experiences meet toxic masculinity and asks the question, what does it mean to be a man?

Lycanthropy imagines a world of modern day werewolves, where an unknown but significant number of people, predominantly men, have the ability to transform into wolf-like versions of themselves, usually in response to extreme emotions such as anger.

The story follows the journey of a trans masculine protagonist named Lyle, who, in medically transitioning, becomes a werewolf. He is faced with learning how to cope with the changes this brings and the violence he is capable of.

Lycanthropy is a one-hour, solo performance which blends powerful spoken work with dynamic lighting designs to explore the nuances around the culture of toxic masculinity through the unique trans-masculine perspective.
