Arts Impulse by Lyra Theatre

Lyra Theatre in association with Catherine Wheels and Imaginate presented Arts Impulse, a week of high quality theatre and dance performances for children and young people in the Craigmillar area of Edinburgh.

Funded by the Creative Scotland First in a Lifetime fund as part of the Year of Creative Scotland, Arts Impulse offered local young people opportunities to see high quality theatre and dance performances, join Artspace youth theatres and create their own work - guided by artists in theatre, dance, music, visual art, writing and technical design.

From Monday 24th September 2012 Artspace and Craigmillar Castle hosted 3 free productions:

  • In Colour - an original performance experience for children aged 2-P4 created by visual artist Katy Wilson and theatre maker Matt Addicott. We all know the colours but what is it like to be inside one? What does it smell like? What does it look like? What does it feel like? An interactive installation which takes children and adults on a very special journey deep inside the colour of the day to discover what it is like to be “In Colour”

  • Rebecca’s Midnight - a playful performance for children between P5-P7 created by Lyra Theatre, held in the spectacular grounds of Craigmillar Castle. Through the use of music and movement we follow Rebecca on her journey to ultimately make sense of the world; meeting strange characters, confronting dark rooms and encountering jolly songs along the way.

  • Real Men Dream in Black in White - created by Real Men for the National Theatre of Scotland’s Exchange Festival 2012, this production fuses dynamic physical theatre with the casts own personal stories, memories, hopes, dreams and fears to explore and challenge what it means to be a “real man” in modern society.
